A trial that converts to a paid subscription by default, where the operative cancellation deadline is earlier or harder to reach than the offer implies.

The mechanism is rarely the auto-renewal itself, which is ordinary and disclosed. It is the gap between the headline and the clause — a fourteen-day trial where cancellation must be received twenty-four hours before renewal is a thirteen-day trial, and both numbers are published while only one is read.
Visa and Mastercard both require the cardholder to be told before a trial converts, with cancellation instructions attached, and require an online cancellation mechanism. Those obligations reach a UAE merchant by contract regardless of which law applies to the sale.
In UAE contract terms, Article 128 of the Civil Transactions Law is the relevant starting point: silence is not acceptance, so renewal by absence of objection is not a mechanism the law supplies on its own.
A first charge the buyer believed they had avoided is the highest-probability dispute in subscription commerce, and disputes feed the one ratio with an automatic consequence. The retained revenue and the dispute cost land in different reports, so the trade is usually never computed.
The definitions are the easy part. Whether the figure on your dashboard was computed this way is a different question, and usually the more expensive one.
